Superlab is an experimental design lab with a strong purpose – to change the working environment of the future.
“The city of the future for us is obviously an active city that promotes life and movement. A big city feeling on a small scale.”
– Niklas Madsen, CEO
Why are you choosing to be an H22 partner?
We contacted H22 already in the summer of 2018 when we heard what was going to happen in the city. Since Superlab continuously study different areas that we believe will shape our future, especially in terms of how we will work and live we immediately felt that we could and wanted to contribute. Being a partner at H22 was an easy decision, to us it was more a matter of choosing the right project.
In what way will your involvement contribute to the development of Helsingborg and other cities?
We are working on several ideas. For instance we have been developing a concept for work in urban spaces for the last couple of years. Together with researcher Charlotte Petersson and Nola, who is a world leading manufacture for outdoor furniture, we will showcase a collection of furniture aimed to encourage work outside. What is unique with these products is its design that lets you bring your work outside without having to compromise functionality or effectiveness. It is real work furniture, not just a wooden bench that you are used to see in the city or park. To break existing norms of leaving the office We focused on making it easy for people to recognize the place as a working area.
What challenges does your organisation aim to solve within the context of the H22 initiative?
We would like to be a generator for innovative ideas and in co-operation with other exciting organizations we want to raise the bar when creating a smarter city. The expo suits us perfectly. We have lots of ideas that need to be tested.
When you imagine the city of the future, what do you picture as the most exciting changes?
We imagine a city that is smart on different levels. Of course, issues like technology and sustainability will play a major role, but we also believe that the focus will shift from “smart cities” which are about digital efficiency to “conscious cities”, where a symbiosis between architecture and neuroscience is built into the design. With data analysis, artificial intelligence and cognitive science, people become aware of the inhabitants’ actual needs on a deeper level and can meet them through design and function.
