In what way will your involvement contribute to the development of Helsingborg and other cities?
In addition to our mission to empower every person and every organisation on the planet to achieve more, Microsoft, like Helsingborg, has high ambitions in terms of sustainability where we will create a planetary computer to protect our ecosystems and biodiversity and we aim to be carbon negative by 2030. In the journey to realise this, we are running a number of initiatives to support the global work on sustainability. In addition, increased demands from citizens place higher demands on cities to develop solutions that are primarily based on the needs of the inhabitants and the individual where we work with many cities globally to achieve just this.
When building the cities of the future, what new forms of collaboration do you think we need?
We see that a smart city is a data-driven city that requires data exchange and cooperation between different actors in order to meet the needs of its citizens. The transformation that takes place requires innovation in how data is managed and how the ecosystem of actors in society organises around data sharing and collaboration. We see that cities need to establish arenas for cooperation between the private and public sectors to a greater extent and take responsibility for steering their development towards their ambitions through established principles of data sharing and cooperation.
How is your organisation using the potential of digitisation in the making of a smarter city?
The digital transformation of Sweden is crucial for our competitiveness, climate adaptation, welfare, and quality of life. Through collaboration and modern technology there is an opportunity for cities to bridge the gap between increased costs, less budget and fewer resources. With the right technical capabilities, skills and partnerships, we believe we can help cities accelerate their transformation and meet global trends, sustainability goals and rapid changes in their business and the world around us.
