Why are you choosing to be an H22 partner?
A Sustainable Tomorrow sees a natural collaboration with Sweden’s most environmentally friendly municipality in working towards a sustainable future. A Sustainable Tomorrow is organising a Sustainability and Future Conference on 16 September 2020 for the third year in a row in Helsingborg. We are very proud to be a partner in H22 – an ambitious initiative where we want to contribute our expertise in the continuing journey towards 2035. The city is a hub in a region with a strong business sector committed to working with the Sustainable Development Goals, and we aim to facilitate cross-sectoral collaboration between different societal actors.
What does a smarter city mean to you?
A smarter city is a city where people’s unique competencies have an opportunity to be utilised, where mental barriers are broken down. It’s a city with the courage to test innovations – social and physical. It’s a city where the focus is constantly on what is best for coming generations, and a city that wisely considers the limitations of earthly resources in its decisions. Where diversity is a reality.
When you imagine the city of the future, what do you picture as the most exciting changes?
The city of the future we yearn for is a city that has achieved and lives by the Sustainable Development Goals, a city where collaboration and inclusion between the public sector, academia, business community, and civil society has engaged the city’s residents and brought about change that makes the city safer, greener, quieter, and more attractive. It is a city with net-zero greenhouse gas emissions, with more trees, more space for outdoor activities and meetings, and a city with an innovative and sustainable business sector where a good quality of life is experienced daily.
In what way can Helsingborg be used as a test bed for your organisation and innovations?
There is interest from other cities in Sweden and abroad in using the AST model and connecting networks for sustainable development. We see, largely in the support we have received from the business community and the city in Helsingborg, an opportunity to strengthen and develop the model so that it can contribute to development elsewhere. We can test different models and training initiatives within the scope of H22 and streamline our concept, in turn developing other regions in the world. Sweet music to the UN’s ears!
