Daniela Chacón Arias
Daniela is the Executive Director of TANDEM Foundation, a nonprofit organisation that advises public institutions, private organisations, and community organisations to promote local development, sustainability, and resilience. She served as Vice Mayor of Quito between 2014-2016 and City Councilor between 2014-2019. She has implemented programmes to promote walking and cycling as sustainable and inclusive forms of transportation and has led several participatory projects to recover public spaces. She created and implemented Quito’s programme to report cases of sexual harassment in the city’s public transportation system and co-founded the Women in Motion Initiative, a Latin-American network to promote women leadership in transport and sustainable mobility.
What will Daniela talk about?
Daniela will be speaking about community engagement in developing sustainable, shared solutions to community problems. She will share her insights on the process followed in the Municipality of Quito in revitalising public space, where addressing engagement issues early on resulted in a successful participatory process. Daniela will also raise some of the difficulties involved in such a process.
