H22 is even more important now. The solution to the current situation is not to produce five thousand face masks. This is something we need to do of course, but the big issue is how to create a more resilient society for when this pandemic is behind us. We’re not going to have a society that has survived just because we’ve been able to combine resources and produce a load of face masks. There’s false logic is saying that money earmarked for future solutions should be spent now. We have to have an adult conversation about the world that’s awaiting us, about the challenges we need to solve. That’s what H22 is all about. The important issues are being put before the unimportant ones. H22 began before all this crisis management. Now we are seeing how all the municipalities are trying to start up small-scale versions of H22, because we need to think about life after the pandemic. Helsingborg has a head start, which fittingly will benefit everyone.

In 2016, the author Conny Palmqvist came to the Vision Fund looking for funding for a little documentary on the Sewing Club, a group that smuggled refugees across the strait in the 1940s.
The City of Helsingborg will be the first in Sweden to build a large-scale urban sewer system for waste separation in Oceanhamnen. Starting from the 1960s, the current sewer system has to a large extent been extended in stages to solve the environmental problems arising from the city’s sewage.
I have found my community in Helsingborg, and it gives me the support and drive I need to continue working for what I believe in.

I am active in Helsingborg’s divers club Delfinen, and we pick up trash from the ocean floor at least once a year.
Within the enormous wood industry, both producers and researchers are searching for more sustainable binding agents as an alternative to the synthetic products used today in, for example, particleboard. Greener adhesives are needed, and that’s where we come in.
When I moved to Helsingborg, not in my wildest dreams did I think that someday I would be involved with the city, running community projects and would meet such amazing people. It all started with being wholly lost in translation in my first few months, looking for information and things to do.
In the innovation initiative that the City of Helsingborg has launched with H22, we’re aiming for big, bold changes – what’s known as radical innovation. This ambition involves two key prerequisites that clearly differentiate innovation from traditional development.
Innovation is important but sometimes can be hard to understand, or for that matter describe. But if you put the world ‘social’ before it, it’s another thing altogether.
