A modern and smart city is safe and secure, and it offers, appreciates, and facilitates access to a good social and physical environment for the city’s residents. A smart city stimulates and utilises the power and knowledge found within all people, businesses, and organisations, and it creates good conditions for all these groups to be able to interact and work together in different ways.
The Family Erik Banck’s Foundation is a foundation for the benefit of the public with the goal of creating good rent-free housing for Helsingborg’s elderly. It has now – eighty years after the Banck Family gave its first loving gift to Helsingborg – chosen to continue on in the spirit of giving. The city is fantastic, but it also faces a continuing challenge in creating mixed and good-quality housing environments, and that includes in the city’s most attractive locations.
The foundation wants to give people in different circumstances the opportunity to live in some of the city’s most attractive areas and create vibrant, exciting, and safer home environments that enrich everyone. We believe that a good mix of elderly and young people, pensioners and professionals, is beneficial both for the individual but also for the smart city.
Through this, we also make it possible for more people to gain access to what the inner-city has the offer. The city is constantly changing, and so are we. We have therefore created an ocean-inspired boutique hostel in one of our city properties. The idea is for visitors, in an atmosphere of community, sustainability, and generosity, to be able to find reasonably priced, central accommodation while at the same time contributing to making a difference to the lives of the elderly.
When we open up the possibilities for people in different circumstances to live in attractive areas, it makes a big difference to the individual tenants, but it also creates more vibrant, exciting, and safer inner-cities.
The Family Erik Banck’s Foundation can, and wants to, do more. By collaborating with the city and others, we can reach even further. Hopefully we can also inspire other players in Helsingborg’s housing market.
