Cornelis is working as an urban planner and researcher at the NGO Safer Sweden Foundation, specializing in urban safety issues. His specific interest lies in how places are created/designed and how that affects people's feelings (of safety and perception of places in general). With a PhD from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH, Stockholm) Cornelis enjoys combining research work with practical analyses throughout Sweden. As a leader in the European Placemaking Network he also tries to elevate crime prevention from being about hardware protection to software interactions between people. At the moment he leads the non-profit project of developing new national Swedish guidelines for safe urban planning, BoTryggt2030.
