If we intend to create future solutions for real, we must be innovative – and we have to be innovative together. We know that innovation generates employment and increased wellbeing. We know that when it’s used correctly, it gives us a better and more sustainable future. But it is only in collaborations that bring together different perspectives, driving forces, knowledge, and dreams that the most impactful innovation happens. When the public sector, research world, and industry meet, the result becomes all the more powerful. We want to be part of this, right in the heart of Helsingborg.

At the moment, we are running the project FairSHARE (JämtJämlikt). The project aims to find different ways to integrate human rights into everything we build in a city. If you as a resident, association, or operator are to feel connection to the city, there must be a sense of ownership. A sense of wellbeing and participation in influencing the city’s development. In FairSHARE, we define and break down how this can be done practically – to then use this in creating the world’s first certification system for equality. In 2022, there will be two cases built that document how exciting it can be when we consider human rights in the development of a place or a property. A meeting hub or two may turn up, for example, in Oceanhamnen. Smart, sustainable, together with and for the people. Hopefully, more cities will be inspired to work in this way.

May people talk about “the tech” as the big thing for the smart city. For us, the technology is a tool that can enable what we actually want to achieve. A good, meaningful, inspiring, and sustainable life for all people. We see the smart city as a city that uses its resources and local assets in the best way and is constantly developing and in sync with its residents. A city that is curious and dares to challenge and question the status quo in order to find creative and clever solutions. A city defined by trust, where the boundaries between organisations are blurred and unimportant. Where synergies are stronger than silos. Where the city’s organisation has the courage to release control while also leading with strength.

We are focused primarily on addressing the challenges of segregation, social accessibility to the city, the city’s attractive force, and the development of the city. Using solid cases, we want to show how to develop places based on the human perspective. Places that inspire sustainable behaviour and learning. Places that give rise to unexpected synergies and stories. We also want to show how good it can be when this is done in an alliance with businesses, the city, academia, and civil society. Where we act as innovation leaders who take these complex ideas and ground them, visualise them, and embody them.
