Why are you choosing to be an H22 partner?
Sweco has 130 employees at the Helsingborg office, and the company sees itself as an engaged part of the city. We view the local challenges through our global glasses, and we want to be involved and contribute with inspiration and innovation in developing the city we love. This is a city like no other, with its beautiful stretch of western coastline, its elevated plateau, its fantastic parks, and its proximity to Denmark.
Together, we want to improve quality of life by planning and designing safe and attractive cities with the people in focus, and with the Sustainable Development Goals as a foundation. We are inspired by Helsingborg’s courage and willingness to test and experiment, and we want to contribute to co-creating the city of the future.

In what way will your involvement contribute to the development of Helsingborg and other cities?
Sweco’s employees in Helsingborg are committed and driven, and together they’ve come up with 100 creative ideas for a smarter Helsingborg. We’ve boiled these down to 22 projects that we want to pursue as part of H22. Each project is linked to the SDGs.
Sweco’s global expertise and experience is contributing to developing Helsingborg, and in turn, the experience from this journey will contribute to developing other cities. At a global level, we will co-create better societies and cities. Our international network drives innovation.
Our work with climate issues has led us to set a goal for our own operations – becoming climate positive by 2030. This means we will completely neutralise our own climate impact and also achieve an additional ten per cent reduction in emissions. We see this goal as leading the way, since we’ll be climate neutral as much as 15 years before Sweden as a whole, and our ambition to lead development is of course something we bring with us to the work with Helsingborg, as we do with all other initiatives.
What challenges does your organisation aim to solve within the context of the H22 initiative?
We want to create a smart city for everyone! We see big possibilities to use our combined expertise – local, national, and international – to elevate and focus on people. We understand the everyday challenges facing different groups and we can help reduce, or even solve, these in a smart way.
In what way can Helsingborg be used as a test bed for your organisation and innovations?
Our employees are engaged and curious! The technological development underway and the challenges we face (climate, pandemic etc.) demand new forms of collaboration and new ways of planning, designing, and building the cities of tomorrow. Being able to test and run pilot projects, being able to quickly determine what works and what doesn’t and then scale up – we’ll need to work with innovation in urban development. Helsingborg can be our test bed as a city with the courage to experiment and collaborate with us and other actors in new and exciting ways.
