City of Helsingborg \/ Vinnova<\/span><\/p>\n [\/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text=”Creating smarter streets” font_container=”tag:h1|text_align:left” use_theme_fonts=”yes” css=”.vc_custom_1615454142408{padding-bottom: 30px !important;}”][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n If you pass by a set of wooden street furniture while strolling down the street of S\u00f6dra Storgatan in central Helsingborg, you might not think twice about it. But this \u201cmobility hub\u201d is in fact one small piece of a much bigger puzzle: What is the smartest way to use our streets in the future city and create a shared environment for dynamic culture?<\/p>\n Inspired by similar small-scale-focused urban design projects<\/a> around the world, Vinnova, Sweden\u2019s innovation agency, and ArkDes<\/a>, the Swedish national centre for architecture and design, launched the Street Moves project in Stockholm in 2020, and Helsingborg is now involved in the further development and testing of this concept. The core idea of Street Moves is a set of timber furniture that can fit inside standard parking spots to create benches for parklets or for parking bikes. But this is just the basic design. The ambition is a kit that can be adapted to the needs of the neighbourhood residents. Why not a space for community meetings, an outdoor gym, or a small vegetable plot?<\/p>\n The mobility hub in Helsingborg is adding elements of greenery and lighting to the street furniture, exploring the different textures that contribute to the experience of life on the city\u2019s doorstep. This will be a temporary installation until autumn 2022 and an evaluation for ways to transform a much longer stretch of downtown streets. The focus is on pedestrians and cyclists and creating a safer, more attractive, and more inclusive urban environment.<\/p>\n The Street Moves project is linked to the concept of the One-minute City, or in other words, the life just outside your door or the environment within a one-minute stroll. This is where daily life is experienced in its most potent form \u2013 the regular interactions, participation, influences, and stimuli. This space is seen as an important starting point for achieving models such as the 15-minute City, a popular urban planning concept developed in Paris. It promotes the creation of a city of neighbourhoods, in which residents find everything they need in terms of work, retail, and leisure within 15 minutes of their\u00a0home.
