The increased electrification of society, in parallel with a growing population, is imposing new demands on our energy systems. With the EU project AREA 21 as a departure point, \u00d6resundskraft and Region Sk\u00e5ne have together begun the journey towards making Helsingborg Hospital (Helsingborgs lasarett) energy-smart. As part of the city\u2019s energy system, the hospital can, if required, assist with the city\u2019s energy needs through flexible power withdrawal, which is enabled by, for example, load balancing, energy sharing between buildings, and smarter energy use in the hospital\u2019s operations.<\/p>\n

This collaboration between \u00d6resundskraft and Region Sk\u00e5ne has received attention both nationally and internationally as a good example of how different actors can cooperate to effectively reach our climate targets and other goals. An essential element that can be derived from the project is the inclusion of all stakeholders in the energy work \u2013 from policymakers to end users. In this way, synergy effects and leverage effects can be achieved in the efficiency work of Europe\u2019s cities, and the shift towards a sustainable society becomes a quicker process.<\/p>\n

At Helsingborg Hospital, this work has created a common agenda in relation to energy work between power companies, property owners, and healthcare operations.<\/p>\n

The journey towards an energy-smart hospital has begun!<\/p>\n
